WROTE IN A FRENZY THIS MORNING....

I usually go out every morning after breakfast and look out at the water. I took my notebook with me today and just started writing in a complete frenzy. That hasn't happened to me in a really long time. It was the Spirit Week series. I realy fit everything together like a puzzle and I'm pleased. There is always something missing for me when I do something, like I'm never satisfied. But now I'm very very satisfied. I'm a perfectionist so I can work on something until the end of time. When I do something and it's not perfect in my eyes, it bothers me. But then I'm usually too lazy to correct the things that do bother me until much later. Old habits die hard.

I recently decided I want to get back into making games again (or at least trying to). I'm still in the learning stages. I MUST learn C++ coding before I can do anything, but I will push on with it because creating and researching games (especially for mobiles) REALLY relaxes me like nothing else. The games are so cute and fun. I'm really liking this program called MILKSHAPE, which I can design game characters with. With MILKSHAPE, I can convert my characters into about 50 different file types, compatible with nearly any other program, like Blender, Truespace (good for a newbie like me), and other programs (I've now forgotten those names). Baby steps. Baby steps.

PROMETHEUS & THE THING FILM REVIEWS

Hi, it's me again, here to talk a little bit about Riddley Scott's PROMETHEUS. First off, I'll give the film a grade of B (or 4 out of 5 stars-whichever one you want). It didn't get an A from me because there were some portions of the film I didn't really understand.

The film opens with an alien-type humanoid that seems to be relaxing or ready to bathe in a giant waterfall. He takes his robes off and sips on a cup of refreshing black juice that suddenly breaks down his DNA, and we see him disintegrate starting from the cellular level on out. Okay, basically, that's where the film lost me. Ha ha.

Even though this is supposed to be a prequel to the Alien franchise, this is the only one of the films I don't really understand. there were new alien races in the film-all of them hostile- as well as the facehugger before it actually became the facehugger (I guess). That's all I can say without giving things away. Once again, there's the presence of the ambiguous android, played by Michael Fassbender. The android reminded me more of Ash in the original Alien movie, rather than Bishop from Aliens (the 2nd film in the series). Actor Idris Alba seemed to me to play the character-type that was portrayed by Yaphet Koto in the original Alien feature from 1979.

All-in-all, the film was more like the original Alien film from '79, both aesthetically and with the characters. I'm going to see this film again to get a better understanding of this but for now, I'd say if you're a fan of the franchise-esp the earlier films- you'll probably like this. Oh, one more thing. This film gives more insight into the designs created by HR Giger from the original movie.
There is finally an explanation for this elephantine getup designed by the great GIGER.

4 out of 5 stars

THE THING (2011)

Kurt Russel as McReady in 1980 version.
M'kay, I finally checked out the remake of THE THING and I never (ever) thought I'd hear myself say this, but the special effects from the 1980 version were better than the those in the remake. That's not saying much because the effects in the original were more comical than scary. The original did have it's awesome moments, though, so please don't think I'm a hater here.

This remake is supposed to follow the original source material (Who Goes There by John W. Campbell) more closely than the '80 version (Idk about the '50's version). But honestly, I liked the 1980 version AND the 1950's version better than the remake. Here's one reason: I didn't really trust the main character-played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead. She played the McReady-type character formerly portrayed by Kurt Russel in 1980. At times in the remake, you didn't know whether or not Winstead was The Thing. Same with McCready. Difference is, I always trusted McCready, no matter what, and he was always a sympathetic character regardless. He was always the hero. Kate Lloyd (played by Winstead) wavered in this for me. Because of her mannerisms (shifty eyes, scowling facial expressions aimed at other characters throughout most of the film), I just didn't trust her and couldn't relate to her. But as I experienced these feelings, I asked myself if this was because she was FEMALE or because of the way she played the character, ect. I came to the conclusion that it wasn't because of her gender. But it's tricky.

Winstead as Kate Lloyd in remake.

Anyway, I don't want to get too much into that topic here. Another thing about the remake is that it really expanded the part the Norwegians played. Instead of a mere walk-on, we saw things unfold through the eyes of the Norwegian team. I wasn't too crazy about that. In fact, I wasn't to crazy about this entire movie. I give it basically, a grade of C (or 3/5 stars). I loved the first 2 films preceeding this one, but this one was just....oh boy. And the special effects were not very good because they looked too much like special effects, if that makes any sense. If you're a fan of THE THING, I'd say don't see this. Sorry:(

GRADE- C or 3/5 stars

small talk

Hmm. It's weird. I feel like I'm only supposed to talk about books on this here blog-especially my own books- but I don't wanna. Books are fine for me, but honestly, I don't eat, sleep, and breathe 'em. Earlier today I thought maybe I should review some books & then post those reviews on here but I haven't really had time to really get through anything. That's the thing about a lot of books today: they're really long...well, 400-500 pages. I mean, I used to read 1,000 word books (mainly biographies and stuff), but that was some years ago when I didn't have a TV. I didn't have a computer, no radio, no technology whatsoever (that was before iPod/Phone/Pad/Fart. And I was living in another country. But anyway....

I decided earlier today that I really don't want to dedicate this blog to books. I like movies more. Plus a movie only takes an hour or so of my time to look at, and I can do other stuff while I watch it. I can't read a book and do other stuff at the same time. Books demand full attention & I just don't have right now. What I will do though is maybe look for much shorter books, like novellas (if those are still being published). Or short stories. I can do short stories-read quickly and review them here. A 500 page book? No can do. At least not often. But yeah, I'll start reviewing some films I like, to get the ball rolling on here, because it's too stagnant here. M'kay, thats--I may change this blogger layout, too becuase I'm getting bored with these colors and whatnot. I've been thing about making one in my own style, like something gothic-looking. We shall see. We shall see.

Final book cover for Spirit week #1

Final Spirit Week #1  book cover, Summer 2012.
I love this cover because this chick has no mouth! I'm really a sucker for black eyes, too.
And black tears.
And black hair.
And that black background behind her.
Ha ha, okay, I'm going a little too far here. But it's a great (to me) photomanipulation by the wonderful Miss Amelia Cooper.
As for the scrawl on the cover, it reads:
Fake-an-injury Day
Nerd Day
Super Social Day
Senior Citizens Day
Celebrity Day
Urban Legends Day
Dress Like A Bum Day

7 Spirit Week days, 7 ways to die!

TO BE RELEASED THIS SUMMER, 2012
